While the ending will leave you surprised, you wonder if you could’ve predicted that coming given the eco-system that prevails in this house.
The only gripe has to be when proceedings seem a little stretched right before the climax, with the characters taking their own sweet time to come to a conclusion. It would be a disservice to reveal anything more about the film that sucks you in till the end credits roll. On the contrary, Meher is only getting started in unfolding a film that will not just surprise you with its detailing but also its unpredictability. After certain events transpire Rama moves back home with his wife Mahati (Anusha Nuthula) and one expects things to relatively calm down.
There is also a serial killer on the loose, slitting throats and leaving behind a trail of bodies. When the brothers hatch a plan with their mother to take control from the father, the series of events that follow are something no one expects. Newly married to Yamini (Pooja Kiran), things at home are just not as rosy as they seem to everyone around them. Younger brother Lakshman (Teja Kasarapu) is on the hunt for a job that will give him and his mother (Sruti Meher) freedom from his physically and verbally abusive father. He will offer rolled joints in return for cake and listen to is somewhat of a Carnatic and devotional music connoisseur. Older brother Rama (Suhas) is a stoner who has been kicked out of home by his father (Sanjay Ratha).
Meher manages to keep things terse and tight for the most part of the film as he peels back layers of this ‘family drama’. The way he fleshes out characters, plot-points, motivations and even the darkness that lurks within is something that needs to be witnessed. Review: Meher Tej makes a stellar debut with Family Drama, the dark comedy of a family that comes unhinged when a bid is made to topple the abusive patriarch of the family. What follows is a series of events that no one foresees. Story: Rama and Lakshman want to take back control of their lives from their abusive father.
